The Inn at Lucky Mud

We just returned from a marvelous weekend in southwest Washington.
We traveled to the southwest corner of the state to celebrate my wife's 65th birthday. I wanted to make it a special weekend for her to mark a milestone day, and I think I succeeded!
We departed home Friday at late morning and drove the three hours to our own little paradise. We only had one little hitch, the GPS took us down the wrong road! Our GPS would not accept the address, so I entered the coordinates, and that took us down a road that ended with a forestry gate. So back we went down the Elochoman Vally Road to SR 4 and headed west again. This upset the GPS very much because he kept wanting us to turn around.

We finally made it to Skamokawa, WA and turned right on to the East Vally Road and 6.3 miles latter saw this beautiful sight, and met Jessica, the best host we have ever had.
After a tour through the B&B, unpacking the car, and meeting the chickens,

we headed out to find dinner. We drove to Long Beach, WA and ate at the Pickled Fish. Great food and a fabulous view of the ocean. Then a short walk on the beach to check out the skeleton of a Gray Whale.

We also saw the restrooms that Lewis & Clark used in 1805! My wife says that is not true, but signs don't lie!
Friday night was very relaxing, the only sound was the dueling croaks of frogs on the pond.
Saturday we woke to a great breakfast of fruit, sausage, and fresh eggs. We then head out on our next adventure, a ferryboat ride across the Columbia River! The small car ferry goes from Cathlamet, WA to Westport, OR.

We drove down the Oregon coast to Seaside and enjoyed a piano serenaded lunch at Finn's Fish House.
The hard rain showers coming of the ocean persuaded us to return to Lucky Mud for an afternoon of relaxation with a side trip to the Cathlamet Covered Bridge,

and dinner at The Duck Inn in Skamokawa.

Another restful night and then a misty Easter morning.

After a pancake breakfast and some great conversation about the history and construction of the B&B, we purchased some glassware created by the host godson, Treasure.
Treasure also made the light globes for the kitchen.
Then it was time to leave this paradise and head back to our own paradise at home.

Lucky Me, Lucky Mud.  Kurt Vonnagut's Cat's Cradle.
